Do your kids have a daily routine?

January 22, 2018

Is it just me, or does it seem like winter break lasted forever? Did your kids forget that they had to go back to school? Or maybe, just maybe, you're an overwhelmed mom like myself. 🤔

You see, once we became a family of 9 I knew I couldn't let the kids fly by the seat of their pants. I had to bring some order to this chaos that is my life. So I thought I'd share how I get my 7 kiddos up and out the door in the morning and to bed quickly in the evening so I can have a slight moment of peace. Plus a little printable for you to use for your own family!

Morning:

Due to our limited space, all our children share rooms and have at least one bunkbed in their room. Our four older girls have an alarm and it is their responsibility to wake the others and make sure they are actually starting routine.

Now of course I am up... okay, usually I am up by the time they come stumbling up the stairs. I try to be up by 6:30(my routine needs work!!) All the girls are in the basement(with my office!) and the two boys are upstairs. My oldest son usually gets me up before the rest of them, but then there are always those days that that snooze button becomes my best friend. 😴

Their mornings look a little something like this:

  • Wake up at 7:00 am

  • Say morning prayers

  • Make bed(do your kids ever do this??)

  • Use the restroom

  • Brush teeth

  • Get dressed

  • Put jammies on bed for next night

  • Do hair

  • Get backpack ready

Now this may not look quite like your mornings but this is what works for us. My children eat breakfast at school every day since we qualify for their free lunch program(they also get free breakfast).

We usually leave the house at about 8 because that's when they are allowed in the building. Believe me when I say, it's a pretty big feat to get 7 kiddos up and out the door on time. 🤦‍♀️

Our Nights:

After dinner chores and showers take place and then bedtime routine starts. I like to get them in showers starting at 6:30 pm (2 or 3 of them a night, they trade off) and then have them start bedtime routine at 7:00 pm.

This is what their bedtime routine looks like:

  • Get pajamas on

  • Put dirty clothes in hamper

  • Get clothes out for school

  • Brush teeth

  • Read for 15-20 minutes

  • Use the restroom

  • Give hugs goodnight

  • Say bedtime prayers

  • Go to sleep(Sleep being the key word here😉 )

The kiddos are in bed by 7:30 pm with the exception of some Wednesday & Thursday nights. All my older kiddos(8+) get to go to church activities these nights.
